Pathway 1: Mentoring Educators
Equips educators who directly mentor teacher candidates and early-career teachers with knowledge and skills to support effective classroom practices.
Who should participate in Pathway 1 training?
Any mentoring educators who mentor pre- or early-service teachers, including:
- Mentors of interns
- Mentor teachers of beginning teachers
- Host teachers of teacher residents
- Cooperating teachers of teacher candidates
Any appropriate district and campus leaders who work with the pre- and early-service teachers, including:
- Principals
- Assistant Principals
- Instructional Coaches
What’s included in Pathway 1 training?
Participants will engage in 24-30 hours of high-quality, competencies-aligned training, from an approved TMT provider in:
- Summer 2026
- Fall 2026
- Winter 2026-27
- Spring 2027
Participants will develop competencies to:
- Establish effective mentoring partnerships
- Guide mentees in developing a welcoming, accessible, and organized learning environment
- Lead mentees in effective instructional preparation and delivery practices including lesson internalization and rehearsal
- Guide mentees in analyzing student work and making strategic instructional shifts
- Implement co-teaching strategies that prepare candidates to successfully lead their own classroom
How to Get Started
Registration is managed at the district level.
- Step 1 Visit the Approved Training Provider Directory to locate certified trainers in your region
- Step 2 Contact your approved Training Provider for training dates, pricing information, and to register
- Step 3 Work with your district to complete registration and secure your spot in an upcoming training
Funding for the Texas Mentorship Training is available via the PREP Allotment. Districts may opt in to the PREP Programs via the LASO 4 application. Please visit the LASO 4 webpage for more information.

Supports in developing high-quality mentoring educators and promoting alignment between districts and organizations regarding training, experiences, and expectations.
Relevant Policies and Programs
Supports districts in meeting training requirements for mentorship roles, including mentors, cooperating teachers, and host teachers. It also fulfills mentor training requirements for districts in the PREP Mentorship Program.
